We’ve just spent the last couple of weeks making these gates, gate posts and mermaid tail themed post box for a lovely client on Bexhill seafront.
Designed to be sympathetic to the seafront in front of the property and the Art Deco De La Warr pavillion just metres away, we’re really proud to have contributed a piece of privately commissioned public art to Bexhill seafront.
We’ve really enjoyed creating this panel for a property overlooking the sea in St Leonards Marina. It involved a new challenge, wrapping glass balls in hot steel without shattering the glass.
With a little bit of trial and error we got them in and the client is really pleased with the result.
It’s good to advertise, especially when it creates a commission for another artist. So we’ve just had our commercial vehicle spray painted by artist Luke Brabants with his intepretation of what a thirsty blacksmithing bear looks like.
We’ve just forge fabricated and installed these railings in the village of Icklesham. Built to replace a timber fence between two properties, these railings had to sit upon and in-between an existing low wall. They also had to match a piece of decorative iron work the customer used as a screen at the front of the property. After test fitting they were shot blasted, zinc sprayed and powder coated before being finally fitted.
George Street Wave Railings
We’ve just installed these awesome flow themed railings in Hastings Old Town, just feet away from the beautiful pedestrianised area of George Street. The brief was to produce something funky for the customer’s house, and he is really pleased with the result.
We’ve just test fitted this 8 metre stretch of water themed railings at a lovely property in Hastings Old Town. They are now off to the finishers to be shot blast, zinc sprayed and powder coated with a chrome looking finish.
Many of the railings to be found in seaside resorts like Brighton were removed in the 2nd World War when they were melted down to make planes for the RAF. But on this job they it was the salty air that had destroyed the railings and gate at this period property. This month I’ve removed the rusty old railings at this property in Brighton and replaced them completely with a brand new solid gate and finial topped railings that match the original deign required for this listed property. The zinc spray and modern powder coating means the owner will never have to worry about corrosion.
The challenge I took on with this pair of new gates was both practical and artistic. The client wanted something artistic that would also serve as a functional barrier to shut out the outside world. These new gates, with barely a foot of straight steel within them look quite striking outside our forge on the Rye Road just outside Hastings. They are finished with a matt grey powder coating and fitted and incorporate a traditional gate journal and pivot within a very contemporary gate design.
I don’t often work with sheet metal as it’s more of a tinsmith’s job, but when I was asked if I could cover the concave roof of this elliptical pergola in Hastings I couldn’t resist the challenge. I’m as pleased with the result as the client.
It’s great to work with craftsmen that use other materials. So I was really happy when I was asked to make some curved hinges for these amazing and very heavy oak gates recently. The design required traditional hinges that couldn’t just bear the weight but match the beautiful steamed and curved oak woodwork.
It’s an honour to have made something to compliment someone elses craftsmanship.
